East Bergen Place Roadway Improvement Update

The majority of the sanitary sewer work for the East Bergen Place Improvement Project will be finished by end of the week of October 6, 2018. This includes base paving sanitary trenches between Branch Avenue and South Street that will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018.

The sanitary sewer work remaining on the project includes improvements to the Hudson Avenue lift station. This work will take about one to one and a half weeks and has yet to be scheduled as the contractor is waiting for a utility provider to temporarily support a utility pole during construction. This work will also include three (3) days and nights where East Bergen Place will be partially closed with only one through lane open between South Street and Broad Street. An additional update will be provided on specifics of the partial roadway closure.

Commencement of additional water main work should begin the week of October 21, 2018. Water improvements will begin in the roadway section from Branch Avenue to South Street. Water improvements for the entire roadway from Branch Avenue to Maple Avenue will be finished on or around the week of November 30, 2018.

Following the water main improvements there will then be a 90 day settlement period for the water trench repairs to settle. During this settlement period the contractor will begin concrete curb, sidewalk and driveway apron work. Following the settlement period, the road will be milled and overlaid curb to curb with the final surface pavement on or around the middle of March 2019 depending on the weather.

Substantial completion of the project is estimated by the end of April 2019. It is noted that this tentative schedule may be amended for unforeseen delays due to weather or differing underground site conditions.

We would like to thank both residents and motorists for their continued cooperation during this project and also apologize for any inconveniences that may be caused by the additional water main improvements and the subsequent extension of this project.
