[ARCHIVED] Shrewsbury Avenue to be closed at RR Crossing for construction project

The State of New Jersey will be replacing the two-track New Jersey Transit crossing at Shrewsbury Avenue.  Construction is expected to begin on Thursday, December 6th with an anticipated reopening on Friday, December 14th.  This schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.  The construction will occur between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. but the crossing will be closed to all rail and vehicular traffic 24 hours a day during the course of the project.

A detour plan has been reviewed and approved by NJDOT Traffic Engineering.  The detour is via Bridge Avenue, Monmouth Street and West Front Street as follows:

  • Northbound Shrewsbury Avenue traffic will be detoured via a right turn east on Monmouth Street, left onto Bridge Avenue northbound, and left onto West Front Street westbound back to Shrewsbury Avenue.
  • Southbound Shrewsbury Avenue traffic (approaching from Rector Place) will be detoured east on West Front Street, right onto Bridge Avenue southbound, and right onto Monmouth Street westbound back to Shrewsbury Avenue.
