On August 21, 2019, the Governing Body of the Borough of Red Bank adopted Ordinance 2019-41 concerning single-use plastics and polystyrene foam in an effort to protect the environmental and the public health, welfare, and safety, especially given our position as a riverside community. The ordinance prohibits business, food or grocery establishments from providing single-use plastic bags to customers, food service ware that contains polystyrene/plastic foam, or plastic straws (by request only). Enforcement does not start until September 1, 2020 so that businesses have a reasonable opportunity to make the necessary changes to their inventory and operations, as well as to educate consumers.
The Red Bank Environmental Commission has published an informational bulletin to educate the public on Ordinance 2019-41. Click here to read the full text of the ordinance.
