Semi-annually, the Borough changes the water supply between the Red Bank system and New Jersey American Water system. The Borough began the transition on May 1, 2020 from New Jersey American Water supply to the Red Bank water supply. This transition coincided with New Jersey American Water resuming the use of chloramines at their treatment plant on April 20, 2020. This upcoming change was announced by the Borough in a bulletin published on April 17, 2020. The interaction of treatment processes between the two systems, as well as the increased daytime residential usage from the stay-at-home orders, may cause temporary water discoloration throughout the Borough. Discoloration is a normal part of the process, and users may also notice differences in taste or smell. Therefore, the Borough will be adjusting its hydrant flushing schedule to begin immediately on May 6, 2020 to allow water to flow through the pipes. Systematically opening the hydrants enhances water quality by flushing sediment from the main line pipes, verifies the proper operation of hydrants and valves, and ensures that the hydrant is operational in case of a fire emergency. If you see discolored water, please allow your tap to run until clear. . Avoid washing laundry until water runs clear at the tap. If you are experiencing discoloration, please call the Utilities Department at 732-530-2770 so that we can address the issue.
