The Records Bureau maintains all police records, evidence and property. Records Bureau personnel prepare OPRA requests, reports for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and other agencies, and provides discovery to defense attorneys. The contracting of off-duty police officers for traffic control and other duties is also handled by the Records Bureau.
Obtaining a Police Report
Police reports can be retrieved at the Records Bureau located at police headquarters between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. Accident reports are also available online for your convenience. Accident reports typically are ready three business days after the incident.
While accident reports are public records, not all police report are. It is recommended that you contact the Record Bureau at 732-530-2712 prior to coming to police headquarters to ensure that the report is completed and available to be released. When coming to the Record Bureau you will be asked to complete an OPRA request form, a copy of which is available on this website.
Responsibilities
The Records Bureau is also responsible for issuing taxi driver licenses and the licensing of employees of liquor establishments. Applications are available on this website and can be brought to the Records Bureau for processing between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
